Homestay Program Overview
Nacel Open Door's homestay program is an exciting way for International teenagers to experience life with an American family for one month during the summer. This program proudly represents the foundation of all Nacel Open Door programs, offering the chance for a young person from abroad to improve his or her English. This English language improvement comes from constant immersion with a family as well as their friends and relatives. Finally, the friendships which result from living as a member of an American family encourages continued communication and understanding between two countries.

The teenagers who apply for this program are between the ages of 13 to 18 years old. This program is generally four weeks long, however some prolonged programs are offered.

The new International family member is expected to take part in the daily activities of his or her host family. Past host families have enjoyed taking their exchange student to 4th of July celebrations, picnics, family gatherings, theme parks, or other local activities. The teenager also participates in day-to-day activities such as shopping and household chores. Integration into the family is the ultimate goal of the homestay experience.

Each teenager is covered with health insurance, provided by Nacel International. They also come with their own spending money. Host families are required to provide room and board for the duration of the stay.

Nacel Open Door Support: Nacel Open Door's coordinators select the host families and are available to answer questions and handle any student/host family concerns during the program. Most Nacel Open Door participants come with a group that is escorted by a chaperone, who is also ready to help with any questions or concerns.

This exciting immersion program promotes International understanding for all involved. This understanding fosters a deeper awareness of everyone's role as citizens of the world through direct experience in other cultures and languages.
